Who we are

Sonny’s Spaw in Sequim, WA, was founded in July of 2016. Mary Kniskern, the owner, built her business on one promise: to never do anything to a dog in her care that she wouldn’t do to one of her own dogs. She has kept that promise with Sonny’s becoming the top rated grooming salon in Clallam County Washington from 2019-2024. What started as a one woman show has grown exponentially over the last 8.5 years. The Sequim location now has three full time groomers, a state of the art self wash station and is fully equipped with professional grade equipment and products.

In 2025, Mary relocated to the San Jose area and bought a new Mobile Grooming Van so she can bring her skills and love for the dogs right to your doorstep.

Mary believes in putting the dogs’ needs above everything else. She ensures all staff (including herself!) receive regular continuing education on low-stress handling and proper grooming techniques. All of Sonny’s Pet Care Services LLC employees are Fear Free Certified as well as being trained in PetTech CPR and First Aid.

In 2024 Mary became a PetTech instructor to help educate pet parents on life saving skills for pet emergencies. Mary is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy and applies her skills as a Positive Reinforcement trainer to the grooming table. She ensures everyone on her team are up to date on science based methods of canine handling and care. Mary takes kind and compassionate grooming to a whole new level, making sure every dog in her care gets the best chance possible to be groomed with a minimal amount of stress. All of Sonny’s Pet Care LLC employees work toward building life long bonds with the dogs under their care.
